10 Apr Can You Use the Apple Watch Without an iPhone?
Does the Apple Watch require an iPhone? If you look at the pre-order description of the Apple Watch, you will notice a “Requires an iPhone 5, 5c, 5s, 6, or 6 Plus and iOS 8.2 or later” message. However, non-iPhone users can still use the Apple Watch but they will not have full access to the functionalities of the Apple Watch. Unfortunately, the Apple Watch gets its data connections and GPS signals from the iPhone. Therefore, you will not be able to connect to the internet. Think about this for a second, you will not be able to access any apps that require internet or data connection including the Phone, Text Messages, Mail, Siri, Facebook, Twitter, Maps, and more.
So what can you do with the Apple Watch without an iPhone? Well, you still have access to some of the Health functionalities (heartbeat monitor, steps taken, stairs climbed, etc.) including the Fitness apps. You can listen to music via a wireless Bluetooth headphone. You can control your Apple TV or iTunes with your watch. The watch is still a timepiece you can use to tell the time and set alarms/timers with.
Basically, it really isn’t worth owning the Apple Watch without an iPhone. The Apple Watch is in the higher end in terms of price for a smart watch and without all the functionalities it may be more wise to purchase a different smart watch.
